ITER poloidal field converters package took a step forward again at the beginning of Feb., 2015, with the successful long time steady-state operation testing of the PF AC/DC converter unit prototype at the Institute of Plasma Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ASIPP).

Modify the original FDR 2001 design, pointing out the design risks and defects, modify the unreasonable and unavailable part of original design and put forward the new scheme which is ensure the reliable operation of the ITER power supply system. The improved scheme had been approved successively by two independent expert groups and became the final baselines of the ITER power supply scheme. The prototype manufacture design of converter transformer, converter module and external bypass have been completed at the end of April 2013.;The prototype manufacture design of dc reactorand dcdisconnectorhave been finished at the beginning of April, and the design documentation and fabrication of the prototypes are also under prepared;The prototype manufacture design and design review of control equipment have been completed at the beginning of March. During 16-18th July 2012, preliminary design review meeting of PF AC/DC Converter PA was organized successfully: Since the execution of PF AC/DC Converter PA in China, all aspects of work has been enhanced and related design/product quality&process control has been improved continuously.Preliminary design review meetingof PF ac/dc converter was organized successfully in July 2012.

On 21st December, 2011,CNDA and ASIPP signed design and local integration contract for PFAC/DC Converter PA: Based on the conception design and review, ITER PF AC/DC Converter PA was delivered from IO to CN DA, after the PA signed on 27th April, 2011,CN DA has strictly followed the established scheduling and quality plan during the project execution, and under the instruction and support of IO, ASIPP was chosen as main supplier of CNDA.

On 27th April, 2011,PFAC/DC Converter PA was signed by IO and CNDA:The signing of a Procurement Arrangement marks a big milestone for the project;CNDA will procure all fourteen PF converters that will provide controllable current/voltage to ITER's six Poloidal Field coils. The procurement package includes the design, fabrication, delivery, installation, assembly, integration and site acceptance test of the converter units. It is a very challenging system due to unprecedented power level and short circuit current, and the high dynamic demanding from the need of the plasma control.Field coils.
