On 26 February, 660 metres of completed toroidal field dummy conductor was delivered to Japan. This was the first ITER component completed in China, and also the first delivery among ITER Members. On 10 March, the packaged toroidal field dummy conductor arrived in Fukuoka, Japan where it will be stored at the Wakamatsu site until further processing. This milestone is a major step for the ITER project.
The successful transfer of toroidal field dummy conductor was the result of the combined efforts of many, including research done at ASIPP well in advance of production, and cooperation with the ITER Organization, the Japanese Domestic Agency and the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA).
The first TF conductor is ready for shipping on Dec.3rd, 2012. Vice Minister Cao and ITER DG Motojima attended the Ceremony in Hefei. Institute of Plasma Physics, CAS fabricated this conductor according to the contract signed with ITER China in 2009, and all production was under ITER China and IO QA supervisor. It is the first item from China.
On Oct. 23rd, 2009, ITER China and Institute of Plasma Physics, CAS signed the procurement contract of TF conductor in Beijing. It is the first manufacturing contract that ITER China signed with domestic supplier. According to the contract, ASIPP will produce a copper dummy TF conductor and one 100-meter-long Nb3Sn TF conductor for suppliers’ qualification.
On June, 16th, 2008, ITER China signed the first ITER Procurement Arrangements (PA) with ITER Organization in Aomori. According to this PA, ITER China will procure 11 unit length conductors in kind for ITER’s 18 superconducting Toroidal Field magnets. All those conductors will be delivered to the destination designed by IO.
