ITER Gas Injection System Manifolds Manufacturing Completed

On April 10th. 2021, the ITER Gas Injection System Manifold Manufacture project undertaken by China Nuclear Industry Construction 23 Co., Ltd.(CNI23) has been completed in Huizhou, Guangdong Province, and the last batch of products will be delivered to France in the near future.

Dr. LUO Delong, the Director-General of China International Nuclear Fusion Energy Program Execution Center (ITER China), and relative persons of Institute of Plasma Physics (CAS), CNI23, and Southwestern Institute of Physics (SWIP) attended the completion summary.

CNI23 summarized the results and achievements during the Design, Manufacturing and Delivery phases. Dr. Alain Becoulet, Head of the ITER Engineering Domain, sent acknowledgement from France through video. Luo Delong expressed the hope that all parties can strengthen the Top-Level Design, gather more advantageous forces to participate in ITER Project, and promote the high-quality development of China's domestic nuclear fusion.

ITER Gas Injection System is the first tritium-related procurement package undertaken by China. The manifolds of GIS deliver various gases for ITER plasma operation, maintenance, controlling and wall conditioning. Meanwhile they provide hydrogen and deuterium for heating and diagnostic neutral beams, and necessary gases for pellet injection, as well as for the emergency fusion power shutdown. The technical requirements of this system are far higher than the standards for present domestic commercial nuclear power pipeline, which poses a significant challenge to the design and manufacture.
With the assistance and promotion of ITER China, CNI23 jointing hands with SWIP and ASIPP, has made concerted efforts to carry out manufacturing work in strict accordance with technical requirements, completing each batch as planned to keep the on-site installation schedule.
